Lots of fun, great-smelling DIYs in this post for y’all to enjoy and give as gifts (or sell online for some extra cash).
I’ve turned my home into a chemistry lab of sorts. I have wax melting in one corner for candles, whipped butter for lotions and soap molds with beakers in the other corner.
‘Skele-Gro’ Eucalyptus Foot Scrub
For this, you will need epsom salt (1 cup), sea salt (1/2 cup), eucalyptus and mint essential oils (10-15 drops), and coconut oil (1/3 cup).
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. You can add dried herbs, if you have any. I had some left over rosemary leaves that I added to the mix. Pack in a glass bottle (I used an old Nescafe bottle). Print out labels for Skele-Gro from Google and stick with mod podge.
‘Essence of Dittany’ and ‘Lavender’ Refreshing / Soothing Oils
Refreshing rosemary to energize you in the mornings and soothing lavender for a good night’s sleep.
You will need small bottles to hold the oil, rosemary and lavender essential oils, dried herbs (optional), almond or argan carrier oil.
Fill 3/4th of your bottle with the carrier oil. Add 15-30 drops of the essential oil and gently mix by inverting. Optional: You can add an eye screw on to the lid to use as a pendant. Print labels and stick with mod podge.
To Use: Dab a few drops on your wrists or behind the ears and/or beneath nostrils.
‘It is Veritaserum – a Truth Potion so powerful that three drops would have you spilling your innermost secrets.’
You will need almond / argan oil (1/2 cup), coconut oil (1/4 cup), shea butter (3-4tbsp), 10-12 drops of vanilla essential oil, tropical blend essential oil (optional).
Mix all the oils and butters in a double boiler and once melted add the essential oils and stir. Add to a bottle; label it and use. This will have a whipped butter consistency.
‘Draught of Living Death’ Slumber Candle
I love how this candle turned out. So calming and fragrant.
You will need beeswax or soy wax (quantity depends on how big of a jar you have; I would recommend adding water to the jar to gauge volume and adding double the wax), vanilla essential oil, wick and holder.
Melt the wax in a double boiler and add the essential oils and gently stir. Keep the flame on low to prevent the wax from hardening. If you’d like to add color, I would recommend a candle specific coloring dye or wax cube. Attach the wick and holder into the jar, and pour the mixture. Use a skewer or spoon to hold the wick in place till the wax hardens. Once hardened, leave the candle in the fridge for 20 mins to firm the wax. Add appropriate labels and enjoy your slumber.
Potion Oil Diffusers – ‘Polyjuice’ and ‘Draught of Peace’
Oil based diffusers are longer lasting since they don’t evaporate as fast as alcohol or water based.
You will need an odorless carrier oil such as almond, argan or safflower oil (3/4 bottle volume), essential oils (30-50 drops), reed sticks.
Add the carrier oil 3/4th into your bottle. Add the essential oil and gently stir. Print labels, and use with reed sticks. You can pour a small amount of the oil into a smaller bottle and add to it from the parent bottle.
