With Earth Day almost upon us and today’s photo challenge on ‘Earth’, I wanted to share a wonderful recycling effort: Converting plastic bottles to heavy-duty, thermal blankets.
The Tzu Chi Foundation in the Philippines has started converting plastic to usable material. The bottles are recycled into plastic chips before being turned into yarn, creating a polar fleece material. The fine thread is then woven into soft blankets. Emirates Airlines has started using these blankets for all passengers. The video below gives a broad outline of how it’s done.
Have you seen the shoes Reebok made using plastic collected off a beach? These are such neat ideas!
